| Science Congress a
regular feature of Al Madrasa tus Saifiya tul Burhaniyah’s
calendar, is held every year to provide with an opportunity
to the students to ponder over the Creation of Allah Subhanahu,
which has been a great source of inspiration and wisdom
to mankind. Allah has encouraged us to ponder over His Creation
and has praised those in Al Quran ul Karim and on lisan
of Rasulillah SA.
As stated in the ayat

And as rasulullah SA said . . It
also gives them a chance to understand the practical application
of the concepts they have learnt and develop their skills
in various areas.
For the Academic year 06 – 07 AMSB Karachi had organized
the Science Fair for the Upper Primary and Secondary students,
i.e classes 5 to 8 and 9 O levels. It was held on Friday,
16th
of February 2007 in the AMSB complex.
The Science Fair was divided into two levels, keeping in
mind the capabilities of students.
Level 1: Included students from classes 5 to 7. They worked
on a theme common for all the grades “Biomes”.
Their project was to present the major biotic community
and illustrate their distinctive ecological system. The
theme was challenging to students as this concepts were
not yet introduced in their curriculum and were related
to Geography. Students in each class were divided into groups
in order to deal with the various aspects of each biome.
There were a total of 19 groups.
The topics and subtopics were as follows:-

The judgment of Level 1 was done by Janab
(teacher) Sh Quresh bhai from “Al Jamea tus Saifiyah”,
who is also the coordinator of IBO program and Mr. Ali Gohar
(student of Masters Program in Education from AgaKhan University).
According to both the judges students had researched very
well and they were very confident in explaining and answering
the questions. They also appreciated the team effort and
the colorful models on display.
Level 2: Included classes 8A, 8B and 9th O levels, to ensure
the participation of each student in the project, students
were divided in groups of 3 to 4, Fourteen groups displayed
their exhibits in this level. Each group chose their project
Category from :
• Astronomy
• Biology
• Earth science |
• Engineering • Physical
science • Mathematics |
They further chose the topic they were
interested in their chosen category and proposed a project
question which would be an investigation to discover the
answer to a scientific problem using the “Scientific
Method”
The Scientific Method is the
"tool" that scientists use to find the
answers to questions. It is the process of thinking
through the possible solutions to a problem |
Teachers helped students understand the scientific concept
Additionally a workshop was also conducted for the participating
students to explain the different areas in their project.
Each project had a project report.
| The project report is a compilation of everything
the student did to investigate |
The criteria for this level were met by the International
Standards of the Science Fair, which is followed by “Intel
Science Olympiad”. As our aim was to acquaint our
students with the process and methods of scientific investigation
and prepare them for the Intel Science Olympiad.
These are the list of Projects done by students at this
level:

The judgment of this level was carried out by M. Shamoil
bhai ( Muraqib, and student of Masters program in education
) and Mr. Anthony Giokyo ( Student of Masters Program
in education and a professor for IBO Program in Mombasa),
according to the judges this process was amazing and projects
were one of its kind.
